Check the installation you use
Open Android Settings, choose Apps, and select the installed app. The App info screen may show its version near the bottom. Make a note of that information before you start.
If the app displays an update message, read it in full. A changed filename or a more recent download date does not, by itself, prove that a file is a newer release.
Prepare for an update
- Finish any active session and return to the main screen.
- Make sure you can use your existing sign-in method.
- Check your phone’s free storage and network connection.
- Let the new file finish downloading before opening it.
Keep passwords and verification codes private. Our website does not need them to provide update instructions.
Install over a compatible app
Android can normally apply an update over an existing app when the package identity and signing certificate match and the release is compatible with the phone. The installer will show the action available for that file.
Follow the installation steps, then reopen the app. Check that you can still enter the account you intended to use.
Handle an update conflict
If Android says the package conflicts with an existing installation, do not immediately uninstall the current app or clear its storage. A different package signature or incompatible release can cause this message.
